President Trump referred to Sen. Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas” at an event honoring Native American code talkers on Monday. Mr Trump’s comments were made while talking to two Navajo “code talkers” – military veterans who used their indigenous language as a code to pass messages during World War II. The men are in their 90s and did not show any reaction to the remarks, but people around the nation are offended by the remark and news organizations and social media lit up with reactions to the racial slur.
Navajo Nation president Russell Begaye on Trump’s ‘Pocahontas’ remark: “To insert something like that, the word ‘Pocahontas’ as a jab to a senator, that belongs on the campaign trail, not in the room when our war heroes are being honored.” (@NewDay)
